How it works

Your route to a Class 5 licence

Theory comes first, then time on the road. Finish both to earn your course certificate.

STEP 1

Register

Send your details and choose a package. Bring your operator's licence number.

STEP 2

15-hour theory

Complete the online or in-class course within 3 months. Pass mark: 80%.

STEP 3

10 hours driving

In-vehicle lessons in our school car, finished within 6 months. Pass mark: 75%.

STEP 4

Road test

Book your test and tell your instructor ahead of time if you'd like to use the school car.

Pay for your lessons

Choose what you're paying for, then send an Interac e-Transfer or pay by credit card.

Good to know before you start

The key points from our student contract.

Certificate requirements
  • Minimum 10 hours driving and 15 hours in-class/online training.
  • Complete the in-class or online course first, then in-vehicle training.
  • Pass marks: 80% in class, 75% in driving.
  • Below 75% in driving: at least 2 more hours, as your instructor recommends.
Cancelling a lesson
  • Give at least 24 hours' notice to cancel a driving lesson.
  • Late cancellations are charged $50.
Time limits
  • Driving lessons: finish within 6 months of registration, or within 2 years with a $100 penalty.
  • 15-hour theory course: finish within 3 months, or up to 1 year with a penalty ($45 in-class, $75 online).
Switching course format
  • In-class to online after part 1: $75.
  • Online to in-class: $50.
Refund policy
  • Lessons taken are charged at $70/hr; the remaining amount is returned.
  • $75 is deducted if the in-class/online training has started or been completed.
  • $50 administration charge if you cancel before starting.
  • No refunds after 6 months from registration.
Pick-up, drop-off & passengers
  • Pick-up and drop-off are at your registered address. Discuss any change with your instructor before booking.
  • Training is in school vehicles only.
  • Passengers are limited to those allowed under Section 12(2), such as another student, an instructor or instructor-in-training, a school manager, or an interpreter if needed.
Road test vehicle
  • The school car for your road test isn't included in these packages.
  • Tell your instructor in advance where and when your test is booked. Availability depends on the instructor's schedule and area.
Records
  • Following Alberta Transportation standards, student records are kept for 2 years.
